Richard Grinnell was born in 1717, in Newport County, Rhode Island. When he was old enough, he went to sea, eventually becoming Master of various sailing vessels. He commanded regular merchant ships, Whaling ships, (sadly at least once) Slave ships, and was a Privateer. Read more about him. Posted in Stories 12/26/2025.
Vernon Harold Jeffers was Grandpa Jeffers youngest son. Due to tragic events his life was cut short, the circumstances of which greatly affected Grandma Cele in her early teenage years. Posted in Stories 2/11/25.
William M. Francisco was born on a farm in northern Missouri in 1876. His father died when he was young, he got in trouble with the law, he joined the Army ending up in the Philippines, travelled all over the American west, and ended up becoming a bootlegger during the 'Roaring' 20's. James Andrew Carroll was the Grandfather I think we all would have liked to have had the chance to get to know. Sadly, lung cancer took him before we had the chance. This story was put together from impressions shared with me by Grandma Cele, my Mom and Dad, and Uncle Dick. He was a great guy. Posted in Stories 2/18/25.
Luster Carroll was Grandpa Jim's father, and how his life ended affected the course of Grandpa Jim's life greatly. Luster was a hardworking man, doing his best to support a large family. Posted in Stories on 3/15/2025.
Laureston Alphonso Merriam was born in 1843, in northern New York. Shortly after the Civil War started, his 55 year old father volunteered to go so he wouldn't have too. He became a physician in New York City, then Iowa, eventually settling in Omaha, where he was involved in scandal covered by the local papers. Posted in Stories 12/27/2025
Olive Mae Francisco was born in 1908. Her father abandoned her family, she was placed with foster parents that abandoned her, she married young, then divorced, married again, he died, married again, and died at 45. This was my Dad's Mom. Posted in Stories on 12/24/2024.

Milan Dunham Jeffers was born in New York in 1841. Travelled west with his family in the mid-1850's to Wisconsin. Served in two different regiments during the Civil War, homesteaded and raised a family. He lived a good life. Posted in Stories on 12/24/2024.

James Tipton lived a life common to the pioneers heading west. But in his later years he was one of two men who stepped up and most likely prevented a serious Indian insurrection in the state of Washington. All due to a misunderstanding. Posted in Stories on 1/30/2026.
Robert G. Hudson a man I was proud to have as my father. I admire him for the outlook he had on life, and how he overcame big obstacles that have beaten down others. I miss him. This story covers his life up until right before he married my mother. Posted in Stories on 1/24/2025.
